A new day, in a new place, begins with a moment of silence...
HAITI suffered a terrible earthquake accompanied by 25 aftershocks early on in the morning of our first day in Johannesburg,South Africa. In that moment all of us,after having experienced Africa for many weeks at that point, knew that we wouldn't be able to sit back and do nothing. Being in Cape Town and meeting face to face with so much injustice still so prevalent in their society, the Haiti relief effort was to be something we would all be itching to become apart of as we returned to the states. There was a very united feeling on our bus, a fear that once we returned to America we would lose our new found activism. Collaborating to aid the victims of this disaster would keep this activism very much alive in all of us.

IN SOWETO:(The location of several key uprisings during the Apartheid)I remember stepping outside of the church "Regina Mundi" and feeling an unbelievable relief in my chest. The events that took place within its walls were horrifying, and while in there i felt uncomfortable with this heaviness on my ribs. Church which is usually a sanctuary to the masses, became a tomb for many. My emotions within Regina Mundi are truly indescribeable, at this site I was able to make a real connection to our purpose in Johannesburg.
